Tricks of the Trade

Here are some tricks designed to make styling your hair a bit easier.  As much as I hope that these tips help and give you an idea of how to style your hair on your own, we would love to professionally style your hair for your special occasion.

What exactly is an updo?
An updo is when the hair is styled up on the head, accenting the ears and neck.

Common Hair Problems and How to Deal With Them!

Hair is too thick or heavy and won't stay up in an updo!

-Hair styles best when it isn't freshly washed.

-Thick hair often needs more pins and smaller sections.

-Try pulling your hair back in a ponytail first, then continue styling it.  Braided or twisted styles often stay up better in heavier hair.

Hair is too thin and slips out of an updo!

-Hair styles best when it isn't freshly washed.

- Don't overuse hair product to make it stay.  All you need is some strong hold gel before your hair dries and a little spray before you curl and after.  Too much product will make your hair too heavy to stay up.

-Use smaller elastics and pins.

-Stay away from braided or twisted styles that will accent your thin hair.

Hair is cut in layers and the front part is too short to pull into an updo!

-Instead of wearing your hair in a style that pulls all of the hair back in one piece, consider pulling the front pieces up in sections.

- Try pulling the front piece up in a twist and then pulling the back piece up.  Wear some up and the rest down.

- Keep the front pieces down and curl them.

My hair isn't long enough to pull back into a good updo!

-Consider wearing some up and the rest down.

- Wear it all down in loose curls or waves.

- Try a hairpiece, they make a variety of different styles and colors to help accent your hair.  We can help you find one!

Get this Style!

This look was created using large hot rollers in small sections.

The hair was prepared with a strong hold gel and dried with a large round brush.

Next, the hot rollers were applied starting from the top, then down to the ears, and finally the back.

The rollers stayed in the hair for 15 minutes until they were completely cool and then removed.

We used a little spray before combing our fingers gently through the hair.

This look was created on thick wavy hair.

The hair was first flat ironed smooth with a bit of shine serum on the ends to protect the hair from the iron.

Small sections were twist back, starting from the part and fastened with a bobby pin.

The bangs were brought back last and pulled off to the side.

The back of the hair was flipped up using a large barreled curling iron.
